I ordered a sample of this food because my husband and I have been researching a healthy low fat food for our dog. Our dog has been having digestive issues and the Vet. recommended a low fat diet.I ordered the sample because of the previous review. I did not want to end up with a 10lb box of food that my dog wouldn't eat. As soon as the shipment arrived, I opened the box took out the plastic bag containing the food and without opening it I placed it near my dogs nose for him to smell. He loved the smell! After that he never left my side, he wanted a taste. I went ahead and prepared the food, hoping I would be able to stand the fishy smell. I was bracing for the worst and was pleasantly surprised. The food smells like a fish stew. If you're sensitive to the smell of seafood, I can see how you would find this food very smelly. I myself didn't mind it and my dog loves tuna and salmon. This food is perfect for his palate. It had been a while since I had seen him munch his food with such enthusiasm.Admittedly, I still haven't found the 'perfect' dried food product. I avoid white potatoes, any wheat, guar gum, additional sodium, corn, and other junk ingredients. However, I will give this particular product in this Honest Kitchen line (Zeal) for having the best ingredients in dried food I've seen. I will use it again, as an alternate to canned food (and yes, I am as finicky about the ingredients in canned dog food, leaning to only two Merrick products and the Tiki Dog line).I like this dog food, but I find that it isn't substantial enough so I add in another brand's frozen raw patty. If I just feed my little Yorkie plain Honest Kitchen, even at the recommended amount for her weight, she ends up being starving a few hours later. Adding in some other kind of raw "beefs" up the Honest Kitchen and satisfies her hunger and I know that she is getting really good nutritionMy dog liked this but became very itchy after eating it a couple of times....I then realized it was probably the alfalfa, she has many allergies and grass allergies, can not continue to give it to her unfortunately.Best food ever. My dog has never been in better shape. Trimmer and much more energy. Had trouble digesting food -- not with Zeal. Easy to make and other reviews talk about fishy smell. I don't find the smell strong at all. Don't let those reviews discourage you from trying it. Best food ever.I was excited by the desciption and was looking forward to the natural food option for my dog - then I was surprised by how green the powered was and then by the very strong odor. and then huge disappointment, dog would not eat and I did not blame herGreat product but my dog did not like it.Dog's hate it.
