I purchased a pair of Samuel Hubbard Free Limited Edition sunset orange shoes on line from Nordstrom’s website in April 2016 and wore these shoes 8 times during a two week trip to Europe. They were very comfortable, and I enjoyed their color. Upon arriving home, I noticed that dirt and grime had encapsulated the toes and tops of the shoes. I consulted the Hubbard website and found no recommendation for cleaning product, other than brushing. Although the shoes did not come with a brush for their “nu-buck” surface, I have one and used it. The surface dirt came off, but stains and grime remained. I then washed them lightly with saddle soap, which I have used successfully on other nu-buck shoes I own. After drying, the shoes had lost a fair amount of their dye and were much lighter on the tops than on the sides and back. I brushed them, which improved the appearance but did not restore color. I then telephone Hubbard, which advertises on its website the following under the Support tab: “If you have any issues with your shoes we want to hear from you. Our goal is to ‘make friends one pair at a time’. We also welcome any suggestions you might have for how to improve our products and our service.”I explained my problem and inquired if its rep had suggestions about improving the appearance, or any product which could be used to do so. I was told by two persons that (i) I should contact the company from which I purchased my shoes, since I did not purchase them directly from Hubbard, (ii) I should not have used saddle soap on them, (iii) I should take them to a local shoe shop and ask what to do, and (iv) your firm has no product available for any color other than dark blue. I expressed dismay at the divergence between the expressed corporate philosophy and its reality, and was politely but firmly told that nothing could be done to help me.I have returned my shoes to Nordstrom’s and received full refund. My concern is not financial but ethical: Hubbard is producing a defective product and does not care to deal with “suggestions … for how to improve” its products. I received an email from its customer service department, offering a $50 credit toward another pair of Hubbard shoes. Although the shoes are quite comfortable, and have great appearance initially, I will not be using that credit to purchase Hubbard products. Hubbard has blocked my attempts to place reviews on its internet site, which shows why nothing but the highest ratings and compliments show up on that site. If Hubbard manipulates its customer reviews, that raises questions as to its corporate character. If Hubbard doesn’t honor its website service pledge, that raises concerns about its reliability. One pair of shoes from Hubbard has not made a friend of me.It’s a nice shoe with a high quality inner leather lining. The nubuck is soft and even colored. The color is like the stock photos, except the shoelaces are off-white, not red as shown in stock photos. It fits true to size. A little stiff but may break in if you give it time. I feel it’s a bit overpriced.Well, I've owned these shoes for about 8 months and here are my impressions:PROS:Upon arrival, the packaging & presentation were excellent, very high quality for a pair of shoes. The construction is 1st class, especially the padding and lining on the interior. Very comfortable. The yellow "piping" along the sole is irregular looking, but still kinda cool. The shoe itself is very comfortable and I enjoy wearing them.CONS:The Navy Nubuck finish wore out very quickly, especially around the toe area. The white Vibram sole is dirty and stained, nothing seems to clean it.NOTES:I wore these shoes basically to work (indoors) & on casual evenings out, avoiding any inclement weather days as much as possible.I've contacted Hubbard's customer service for a can of the blue dye spray. I will try this and will post the results as soon as I can.Bought a second pair of Samual Hubbard shoes. Way too small and label changed. Mfg says, no and will only give me 50% back used only 1 hour in car!! Said they were well used! Crap liarsDO NOT buy their products. Lost $123!!!Never again will I buy this BrandSamual HubbardGreat shoe. Fits well and is comfortable all day. For the money, however, you would think they could use a shoe string that stays tied. Other than that it's a great shoe.Exceptionally comfortable right out of the box, first time. I'm very pleased with them. Based on other reviews it seemed the sizing could be off, but I ordered my normal size (9.5 M) and they fit perfectly. I'm wearing them nearly all the time now and thinking about getting another pair in a different color. The blue looks great with Jeans...I guess I was expecting a better feel. Maybe after they are broke in better. But for now they are pretty stiff. And not really that comfortable.Very comfortable and good looking walking shoes. The only con I havethe very back of the heel slopes up and that takes a little getting used to.
